City In Ember by Stacey Marie Brown

City In Ember by Stacey Marie Brow this is from her Collector Series. I have decided to do a re-read of this series. I really enjoy Brown’s work. So like before let’s start with a blurb.

Zoey Daniels has been tossed from foster home to foster home, where she grows up fast and tough. When she is placed in her “last-chance” home, she finds a reason to stay and turn her life around: her foster sister, Lexie, who is paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair. Zoey will do anything to keep her safe.
After high school, Zoey is hired by a special government agency, the Department of Molecular Genetics (DMG), where she meets the other reason to remain: Daniel, her co-worker. The man she loves.
But there is something unique about Zoey. She can see fae. Because of this, the DMG hires her to work as a Collector: catching, researching, testing, and using the fae to save human lives. The work never registers on her sympathy radar. She was raised to think of fae as beasts that feed on humans and want to destroy them.
When devastation hits Seattle, Zoey’s whole world is turned upside down. The electric storm connects her to a ruthless fae, a Wanderer named Ryker, whose dealings expose them to even more trouble and danger. They embark on a journey, running and hiding from both the government and fae, both of which threaten their lives and those they love.
**Connected to the Darkness Series. Second series in a three series tie-in.

Okay, I really enjoy this series, not for just the smoking hot Viking fae. Even though he is totally a plus, but Zoe makes this book as well, and Sprig. Stacey wrote some really loveable characters.

Zoe could have given up so many times, but instead of sitting around whining about how she drew the shit straw she got up and fought. Not just against Ryker but life itself. She told herself she was going to punch life in the face.

Now this is an enemy to like the book, there is tension but not romance. This doesn’t take away from the book at all.

Ryker, Wander, fae, smoking hot Viking. He is brooding, he is mean. He has something that another fae faction wants, and he refuses to give it. He knows if he does the world could end and he doesn’t want that to happen.

He and Zoe partner up because Zoe has something of his, they need to find a way of getting back to him. I really enjoy Ryker and Zoe’s relationship. They are thrust into an alliance even though they are enemies and would instead kill each other. Down the line, they realize they need each other to survive.

Then we have Sprig, I love this Monkey-Sprite. He makes this story and a great addition to the Zoe/Ryker team. He is funny, he loves honey, and he falls asleep in the worst moments. The three of them huddle together, and they grow through this book. I love that they develop something more than just an uneasy alliance. They become friends, Zoe learns new things about the fae and Ryker learns about her.

The Collector Series is going to be this week.

City in Embers #1
The Barrier Between #2
Across The Divide #3
From Burning Ashes #4

I don’t know if this comes before her other series, I believe it does. I will do some research and put it down in my next review.
