Bastards & Whiskey by Alta Hensley

Genre: Dark Romance

Ages: 18+

Triggers: Force, Bondage, and assholes

I sit amongst the Presidents, Royalty, the Captains of Industry, and the wealthiest fucks in the world. We own Spiked Roses—an exclusive, membership only establishment in New Orleans where money or lineage is the only way in. It is for the gentlemen who own everything and never hear the word no. Sipping on whiskey, smoking cigars, and conducting multi-million dollar deals in our own personal playground of indulgence, there isn’t anything I can’t have… and that includes HER. I can also have HER if I want. And I want. *BASTARDS & WHISKEY is a dark billionaire romance. If you don’t like a sprinkle of shock, a dash of taboo, and a heavy dose of sex, then don’t take a sip of this TOP SHELF cocktail.

“I hate you”

“Good because I love the way you hate”

Okay y’all I bought this one on a whim because well Hensley co-wrong Snow and the Seven Huntsmen and I enjoyed that book so yet bought this and gobbled it up. I will admit that in the beginning I was not feeling but I am not going to blame this on the writing or the book. I was in a deep, deep book rut and I didn’t think there was anything that was going to pull me out.

I.Was.Wrong. This did it, I don’t know why or how but it did it in spades. I wont lie I am a huge fan of dark romance, and dark paranormal romance. This was soul on the contemporary side, but it didn’t lack in its dark elements. Now I won’t like I am used to a little more blood in my books, but this had some of the darker side of things.

I was morbidly fascinated by Anita and Kenneth’s relationship. It started out with Anita wanting something new and her elderly friend paid for her to go to NOLA where she got a job at Spiked Rose. There she met the powerful Lawyer and boss Kenneth Saxton. He told her to look pretty and never say no, and when it came for tastings read the contract. Anita got herself into trouble and she ran. Kenneth should have not given a fuck but he being the Bastard he was he did give a fuck.

This book was dark and gritty, there were some aspect that made me go “No f’in way” but it totally happened. It’s a stand alone but this book is one of a 5 book series. Hensley did an amazing job and personally I thank her for pulling me from my book rut kicking and screaming.
